VoiceStudio, 646 Languages, Fully Local, and a Star Count That Doesn't Add Up

VoiceStudio claims a fully local voice stack with cloning, dubbing and transcription in 646 languages — and a star count on the same page that contradicts itself.

The star counter on debpalash/VoiceStudio reads about 3 stars total. A few lines below, the same page reports +2,774 in the last day. I have looked at those two numbers twice now and they refuse to reconcile. The project describes itself as “the open-source, fully-local ElevenLabs alternative — voice cloning, voice design, video dubbing, dictation, transcription & audiobook creation in 646 languages.”

That one sentence carries five separate products and a language count larger than most commercial APIs advertise in public. My test would be small: one short clip in, one sentence out, network off, Japanese, because that is the language I would actually use it for. If the clone survives airplane mode, everything else is packaging.

Fully local voice work is the direction I want, which is why the repo got my attention at all. But 646 is a training-data number until someone posts samples, and a star count that disagrees with itself is evidence of attention, not of quality. I wrote about a three-star C repo that gained thousands of stars in a day; same shape, same answer. Wait for one real run.

Picture a laptop with the Wi-Fi off, one paragraph of text, one voice coming back that sounds like the person who recorded it. Run that once with your own clip before you trust the language list.
